hepatitis c treatment with drug treatment component

Hepatitis c
affects approximately 2.7 million persons in the united state. It is a chronic disease that can be transmitted through drug paraphernalia, IV drug use and sexual contact. It has also been transmitted to a large part through transfusions in a hospital setting. Chronic hepatitis if untreated attacks the liver and may cause liver failure through cirrhosis. Persons that have hepatitis c and continue to drink and use drugs have a high possibility of death from hepatitis c and liver failure. Those that receive treatment for hepatitis c in conjunction with drug treatment at drug rehab are more likely to recover from hepatitis c.

Recent studies have shown that abusing drugs and alcohol significantly increases the chances of contracting hepatitis c. These studies have also shown that people that continue to abuse drugs or alcohol after completing hepatitis c treatment significantly lower their chances of remaining clear of the virus. Untreated people with hepatitis c that continue to use drugs and drink significantly increase chances of liver failure and death.
